Case Study: Surplus Line
Association of Washington
In early 2009, the Surplus Line Association of Washington (SLAW) needed a solution to the flood of forms caused by Washington’s paper-based submission process. Based on our prior successes, SLAW knew that SLAS holds not just technical expertise, but practical understanding of the surplus lines industry that makes us uniquely suited to both process analysis and software development.
A central element of the new system is technology that has dramatically reduced the amount of paper forms that brokers and regulators have to handle and will result in significant cost savings with no reduction in broker service. An easy to use Document Upload function has eliminated all but a fraction of the paper forms that pass through the SLAW office.
And now the Washington legislature is considering a bill that will remove the last vestige of required paper filing by summer of 2011. Infinity stands ready to deliver the technology enhancements to achieve the Association’s goal of true paperless regulation. The ability to respond to these procedural changes lies in the system’s flexible and extensible architecture – the Association is not tied by a rigid technology.
In keeping with their mission of providing high quality service to their brokers, SLAW demanded a system that was easy to use and that allowed brokers to focus more on developing their business than reporting policy details. SLAW also asked SLAS to develop a comprehensive broker and regulator training program that would explain best practices to get the best results from the new technology supporting.
SLAW wanted a simplified process supported by intuitive and easy to use technology. They wanted a system that is powerful enough to handle their sophisticated regulatory approach, but flexible enough to adapt to a constantly changing business and statutory environment. That’s why they chose SLAS.
